Solar PV Technology

The solar cells are designed with either mono/polycrystalline silicon or using thin-film photovoltaic cells. The mono-crystalline silicon cells are produced by slicing wafers from a high purity single crystal boule. The multi-crystalline silicon cells are made by sawing a cast block of silicon first into bars and then into wafers. The main trend in crystalline silicon cell manufacture is towards multi-crystalline technology. Most common elements used in thin-film PV cells are amorphous silicon (still silicon, but in a different form), cadmium telluride and gallium diselenide. Of these, amorphous silicon thin film technology is most developed. The crystalline technology has market share of 92%, as compared to 8% for thin film.

Solar Thermal Technology
Solar thermal technology uses lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. The concentrated light is then used as a heat source. The heat produced is used to generate electricity by heating water to produce steam which is used to operate a conventional power cycle, such as a steam turbine. Solar thermal technologies include the following: i) parabolic trough, ii) solar tower, iii) parabolic dish with sterling engine, and iv) fresnel reflectors. Of these technologies, power plants using parabolic trough and solar tower have been commissioned in US and Europe, while the two remaining technologies are not yet considered to have reached a mature stage.

Although there is a high potential in solar energy to support growing needs to India’s population, the high costs associated with the installation of solar devices make it economically less viable. Government of India has launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission to promote the use of solar energy in the country. The mission has set a target of 20,000 MW of solar power generation by the year 2022, and is promoting use of both solar PV and solar thermal technologies.

Below are the presentations for different applications of solar PV technology as well as the National Solar Mission Document.

We can provide the full services of solar PV technology applications including prefeasibility study and submittal of proposal to NVVN, preparation of detailed project documentations, turnkey EPC for the solar power plant, and operation & maintenance support for the power plant.
