Municipal Solid Waste Treatment
Municipal Solid Waste treatment plants:
  • Plants for treating municipal solid waste, including but not limited to producing power and fertilizers.
  • Treatment process based on French technology suitable for application to household wastes in India.
  • A typical plant is capable of treating 320 tonnes of household waste per day.
  • The treatment process is environmentally friendly and produces no gaseous and liquid emissions. The solid output is harmless and suitable for land-filling.
Urban India is likely to face massive waste disposal problem in the coming years. Solid waste management in our country is assigned a very low priority resulting in inadequate provision of funds. The waste management system is unplanned and operated in an unscientific manner. Presently, the municipal waste is disposed in open dumps outside city limits that facilitate breeding ground for flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, rats and other such pests.

The municipal solid waste includes street sweepings, drain silt, construction and demolition debris, etc. The compostable matter in the waste is mostly vegetable waste with very high moisture content and a very low calorific value.

Our waste treatment process is based on technology provided by a French company that was established in 1996 for implementation of innovative process for stabilization and utilization of household and other bio-degradable waste. The technology has obtained official licenses by French Ministry of Agriculture. Plants based on this technology are currently operating successfully in France and Belgium.

The waste treatment process is environmentally friendly – there are no air, soil or ground pollution. It is based on controlled chemical reaction between quicklime (CaO) based reagent and water, contained in the fermentable part of the waste. As a result of the chemical reaction, the organic part of the waste becomes organic-calcium soil fertilizer with strong alkaline qualities. At the end of the process, the non-organic part (metals, plastic and glass) is separated completely into different types, disinfected and are ready for recycling and utilization. The inert remains (stones, glass and limestone) can be used as ballast in road construction.

The plant is based on treatment 20 ton/hour, 320 ton/day and 115,000 ton/year of household waste. The total time of the process is 2½ hours. It is completely mechanized and automated, the reaction is natural, and there is no air or ground contamination.

The equipment is strong, easy to use, of tested quality and of low power consumption. The construction and commissioning period (including production and delivery) is short – between six to eight months.
