Pressure Vessel & Piping Training Series Offered by CoDesign Engineering LLC

Pressure vessel inspectors must have a broad knowledge base relating to maintenance, inspection, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels. The Pressure Vessel Inspection: API 510 course benefits employers and industry as a whole by helping to:

  1. Improve management control of unit operations, repair and maintenance
  2. Reduce the potential for downtime because of equipment failure
  3. Provide a continued high level of safety through the use of highly specialized and experienced inspectors.
  4. Provide knowledgeable and highly skilled inspectors

In addition to the pressure vessel inspectors, this course will also be beneficial to design, operating, fabrication, engineering, reliability and repair personnel of pressure vessels interested in learning about codes and how to navigate through them. The course duration is 5 days, and the course content will follow broadly the following pattern:

Day 1

  1. Interpreting ASME and API Codes
  2. Introduction to API 510 and its Practices
  3. API 510 Frequency and Data Evaluation
  4. API 510 Repair, Alteration and Rerating

Day 2:

  1. ASME Section VIII Design including Hydrostatic and Pneumatic Tests and Test Gauges
  2. ASME Requirement for Welding and NDE including Service Restrictions and Joint Efficiencies

Day 3:

  1. ASME Section IX Welding Requirements and Welding Qualifications
  2. API 572 – Inspection of Pressure Vessels
  3. API 571 – Damage Mechanisms
  4. API 576 – Inspection of Pressure Relieving Devices

Day 4:

  1. ASME Section VIII and API 510 Heat Treatment
  2. Impact Testing
  3. ASME Section V – NDE Requirements

Day 5:

  1. Corrosion
  2. Practice Examination – Closed Book
  3. Practice Examination – Open Book

This is not a course for the beginners. At least 3 years of experience in oil&gas, chemical, petrochemical and fertilizer industry, and involvement in the design, procurement, engineering construction, operation, maintenance and inspection of pressure vessels and related facilities is required. The course is very intense – maximum benefit will be obtained by full attention during classroom training and completing all the homework assignments in the evening. Most of the last day will be reserved for a mock examination that will closely resemble the actual API Certification Examination.
